The Supreme Court directed that all in-service teachers must qualify the Teacher Eligibility Test within the prescribed period.
JKBOSE and State School Standards Authority (SSSA) were designated as the proposed agencies for conducting JKTET.

Although JKBOSE has not yet released the official JKTET notification, education experts expect the examination pattern to remain largely similar to the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) conducted by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The JKTET is expected to consist of two separate papers depending on the classes a candidate wishes to teach.
- Paper-I will be for candidates intending to teach Classes I to V (Primary Level).
- Paper-II will be for candidates intending to teach Classes VI to VIII (Upper Primary Level).
- Candidates who wish to become eligible for Classes I to VIII may have to appear in both papers.
Like CTET, both papers are expected to consist of 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) carrying one mark each. No negative marking is expected.

The Teacher Eligibility Test is a qualifying examination, not a recruitment examination. Qualifying JKTET does not guarantee a Government teaching job. Instead, it makes candidates eligible to apply for future teacher recruitments conducted by JKSSB or any other recruiting authority in Jammu & Kashmir.

The official qualifying marks will be announced along with the notification. However, based on the CTET pattern followed across India, the expected qualifying marks are as follows:

Expected JKTET Syllabus (Paper-I)
